Pear Program
Teaching introductory computer science students how to collaborate effectively
I led a cross functional team of designers, engineers and researchers to build Pear Program: a collaborative, web-based code editor for introductory computer science students to learn how to pair program remotely according to the science of learning.
Read the research on how using PearProgram improved academic outcomes for students in online introductory CS courses, how PearProgram represents a new paradigm in bringing together the Learning Sciences and CS education for building learning tools, and look out for a forthcoming paper on how PearProgram boosted course completion for struggling students in Code in Place.

Innovations in Computer Science Pedagogy
Capturing best practices, ongoing challenges and new models for online and hybrid learning in the Stanford Department of Computer Science.
I worked with John Mitchell, chair of the Stanford CS department, to conduct a comprehensive case study of changes in remote and online instruction in Stanford CS courses. Starting in March 2020 through the 2020-2021 academic schools year, we conducted interviews with over 20 instructors, administered a robust student survey and worked with instructors on course design.
Read the research on Spring 2020 findings, the full 2020-2021 academic year findings and the website synthesizing our recommendations.

How will higher education change in the decade ahead?
The Decade Ahead project collects observations, case studies, reports, and commentary on forces and events that are shaping innovation in education for the next decade.
I worked with John Mitchell, chair of the Stanford CS department, to conduct an interview series to better understand what has happened during the pandemic at higher education institutions: where we have fallen short, where we have made positive advances, and how those advances can be leveraged to build a better future.
Read the interviews with over 20 leaders in higher education and look out for forthcoming articles.

Stanford Digital Education x
National Education Equity Lab
The Decade Ahead project collects observations, case studies, reports, and commentary on forces and events that are shaping innovation in education for the next decade.
I worked with the Stanford Digital Education office to launch an online dual-enrollment high school introductory computer science course in partnership with the National Education Equity Lab. It is the first time in Stanford’s 136-year history that the university has offered a dual enrollment course with transferable college credit in collaboration with Title I high schools nationwide.
